Daily 10: New Way to Lend Crypto, Ex-PayPal Lead Joins Blockchain Startup, Project to Hitch Ride on Elon Musk’s Falcon 9

December 12, 2018

The crypto and blockchain ecosystem knows no days off. The past 24 hours has seen a heap of developments take place, and so to help you stay on top of it all, I pieced together a 22-part thread. Can’t be bothered looking through the whole thing? All good! Below, I’ve put what I considered the ten most noteworthy inclusions. Enjoy!

[1] Dharma Protocol- and Compound Finance-powered Bloqboard introduced its ‘Offers to Lend’ feature. Now, lenders can offer to lend $BAT, $DAI, $REP, $WETH and $ZRX in a P2P-manner from their MetaMask wallet. Can be done in under a minute!

[2] IOHK announced two releases associated with Cardano (ADA). The first was in reference to the Marlowe domain-specific language (DSL). Whilst the full release is anticipated for mid-2019, users can, as of today, explore Marlowe using the Meadow online emulator tool. The other IOHK announcement was the release of its open-source Plutus Platform, a smart contract language for the Cardano blockchain. They created Plutus Playground so as to let developers try Plutus without having to download and/or install anything.

[3] XYO Network (XYO), a crypto-location protocol connecting blockchain to the ‘real’ world, has partnered with Spaceflight Industries to send its first LEO satellite – named EtherX – into space in late-2019! Will be part of a SpaceX Falcon 9’s payload. Now that’s an announcement!

[4] The U.S. CTFC published a Request for Input (RFI) in an effort to improve its “understanding of the technology, mechanics, and markets for virtual currencies beyond Bitcoin, namely Ether and its use on the Ethereum Network.” A draft document addressing the CTFC’s queries has already been compiled on EthHub’s GitHub repo.

[5] Morpheus.Network (MRPH) partnered with Holo – the team behind Holochain (HOLO) – to collaborate on building out use cases specific to supply-chain tracking, as well as tracing in-store merchandising.

[6] Venture capital group Algo Capital today launched a $100M fund to invest in emerging disruptors that are built leveraging the decentralized economy powered by the Algorand (ALGO) blockchain.

[7] TenX (PAY) announced the issuance of a new ERC20- and ERC1462-compliant rewards token called the TenX token (i.e., not a token swap). Snapshot is scheduled for 30th December 2018 (22:00 UTC+8).

[8] Colony Network (CLNY) unveiled BudgetBox, a decentralized capital allocation mechanism designed to support the development of applications on top of the Colony Network. Cool to see more work going into decentralized governance!

[9] Ethereum dApp browser MetaMask has shipped v5.2.0 to the Chrome and Firefox stores. The update features a new-and-improved gas input, usability enhancements vis-à-vis being able to speed up and even cancel pending transactions!

[10] Hong Kong-headquartered Crypto.com (MCO) appointed Tyson Hackwood to its leadership team as Senior Vice President and Head of Global Merchant Acquisition. Previously, Tyson was Director of Asia Pacific for PayPal subsidiary Braintree. Prior to this, he headed the establishment of PayPal Here – a small business mobile payment system – in Australia.
